    1981. They split the season into two halves, with the winner of each half playing in a best of 3 playoff series.

    You’re not talking about the year the World Series was cancelled, that was 1994. What you’re talking about is 1981. It happened in the middle of the season. Bowie Kuhn chose to have a first half and second half champ in each division, so the playoffs were a small different that year.
